The Division I championship was a sight to see when it came down to the sprints. There was a very tight battle between several teams for what can be called the best program. This is still up for debate, but here is the list of teams that had garnered the greatest amount of points in the sprints.
John Curtis - 20pts
John Curtis was primarily held together by two individuals, Justin Horne and King Taylor. Horne is a nationally ranked short sprinter that excels at the 60m hurdles. He took second in the event after running one of the fastest marks in the nation. His second-place finish was mimicked by his teammate, Taylor King, who competed in the 400m. His conversion from flat track to banked would convert his time from 50.39 to 49.60 (US #64).
The two joined together in the 4x400m alongside Jermal Callio and Malik Smith. They finished fourth, just shy of the podium.
Ruston - 20pts
Ruston took home the majority of their points from a group effort between Joshua Anding and Carson McPherson. They both pulled the majority of the points with their 3rd and 4th place finishes in the 400m and they returned to score more points in the relays.
These two doubled back for the 4x400m to make a highly competitive race between them and Catholic High. They eventually took second after a very close race and secured eight more points for the Bearcats.
Edna Karr - 22pts
Edna Karr managed to score the most points in Division I for the sprints thanks to Ra'hji Dennis and their relay teams. Coincidentally, these were the only points Edna Karr was able to score at the state meet, further securing that they are a heavy-set sprint program.
Ra'hji Dennis scored the only individual points for the team with his win in the 60m dash. He also returned to score points in both the 4x200m and 4x400m relays.
