Hannah Boullion Runs LA#1 All-Time Indoor 400m In Houston!

HANNAH BOULLION WAS ALL SMILES AFTER RUNNING LA'S ALL-TIME NO. 1 400m ON SUNDAY

St. Louis High senior Hannah Boullion isn't messing around this year.

She demonstrated as much on Sunday as she ran the fastest indoor 400m ever run by a Louisiana high school girl. Her 55.00 at the Fastrak Indoor Challenge is the new standard by which all other female quarter milers in Louisiana will be measured.

Boullion, who had a season best last year of 56.70, was No. 13 on Louisiana's all-time indoor list going into Sunday's meet. She moved ahead of fellow Lake Charles sprinter and friend--Barbe's Kennedi Burks, who held the No. 1 ranking for the last ten months after her 55.87 at last year's LHSAA D1 State Indoor Meet

"I did a lot of preparing mentally for how I was going to run it," Boullion said. "Last year, I just went and ran it, and didn't really think about how I was going to run it. This time, I went out a lot faster and I picked up speed earlier instead of waiting so long and I think that's what helped me."

"We really didn't talk about a time," Boullion said. "It was definitely in the mix of me running a 56 and just hoping to do that, but I didn't really want to put a time in my mind because when I think about it too hard I'm like 'Oh my God, I need to get this,' so we just went out a ran it and I was so surprised when I was done running about how fast I just ran."

Not only was Boullion excited about her time, her coach, Johnny Giordano, was very happy as well.

"He was pumping his fist in the air and jumping up and down," Boullion said of her coach.

"That is amazing," Boullion said of having the No.1 All-Time indoor ranking for Louisiana girls in the 400m. "I know that I was able to run that fast because of God. I was just really excited. It's mind-blowing."

Boullion said that she is further along this year because of her focus when training started in the summer.

Boullion's time came from Lane 5 on the banked track at the University of Houston. Burks' time was on LSU's Mondo surface inside the Carl Maddox Field House. The Louisiana track and field community will now wait for the drama to unfold as we head into the 2025 indoor season.

"It's probably the best scenario I could ever ask for," Boullion said of her friendly rivalry with Burks. "It's better to run with somebody who is as fast as you or faster because you're not running by yourself. When you run by yourself it's hard to know if you are running fast enough. When you are running with somebody else it's easier to give it all you have."

Boullion came through the first 200m shoulder to shoulder with Caila Lyons (56.64). Lyons took the lead for approximately 100m before Boullion made her move and separated from Lyons over the last 100m of the race.

"At the beginning, I knew I got out faster than I usually do," Boullion said. "Once she passed me, I knew I wasn't going to go around her in the curve, so I waited until maybe half was in the straight away. I just went for it and kept running."

Boullion has her sights set on some specific time this year.

"For indoor, I want to his 54 low," Boullion said. "For outdoor, I want to hit 53. I think I can do it."

Boullion will now turn her attention to her next competition which will be at Texas A&M on Saturday, January 11th.
