Former Ruston Bearcat distance runner Thomas Rogers is now an LSU Tiger. He trains daily on the purple and gray Carl Maddox Mondo surface where last year he put on a show during the final moments of the LHSAA D1 State Indoor 3200m.
When he started his kick, he didn't think he would have a chance to win. He just wanted to give it everything he had in his last indoor state meet.
Ruston distance coach Dustin Cochran said that script writers in Hollywood couldn't have come up with a better story than Rogers winning his first state title in dramatic fashion.
In what MileSplit LA state editor Jerry Byrd described as a "furious kick," Rogers slipped passed Brother Martin's Daniel Falk. Rogers finished with a time of 9:33.81. Falk finished as the runner-up with a time of 9:33.88.
Cochran isn't a "I told you so" guy, but even he couldn't help himself when he spoke with Rogers after the race.
