LHSAA Boys State Meet Preview

Boys 5A

For the men's 5A division, some teams that could be in contention for a team championship title are Catholic High, Ouachita Parish High School, Ruston, and Zachary. This should be an interesting development for potential team scores because Ruston and Ouachita Parish come from the same district while Zachary and Catholic High both share the same region.

Catholic High boasts a deep distance squad with the likes of Daniel Sullivan, Blaison Treuil, and Owen Simon. These few are spreading their talents out from the 800m to the 3200m alongside a strong 4x800m. Catholic's other main point-gets arise from throws. Such throwers consist of Jackson Rimes, with an impressive state-lead of 208-8 in the javelin, Caleb Marcantel, Prince Edwards, and Gerard Lorio

Ouachita Parish High School has a strong showing of time in both sprints and relays. Ouachita's strongest sprint times come from the 400m with Joseph Harris with a time of 48.86. Kashie Crockett has not been shy from putting up fast times either with a state-leading time of 14.16 and 37.17 in the 110m and 300m hurdles. Ouachita has also been dominant in both their 4x200m and 4x400m relays with top times of 1:27 and 3:20 respectively.

Ruston is a well-rounded program and shows promise in most of the disciplines. First, Ruston's Dyllon Nimmers has shown great range by putting up top times from the 800m to the 3200m. Nimmers progresses to regionals in the 800m and 3200m; even though he is one of the fastest milers in the state he leaves those points up for grab for schools like Zachary and Catholic High. Ruston's sprint squad is deep with three strong sprinters: Keitravion Hargrove, Demarrion Rhone, and Joshua Anding. These three are spread between the 100m to 400m and could be crucial in key point-gets in the sprint field. Brandon Green is by far not forgotten, as he holds the #2 position in the triple jump in the nation as well as one of the best 300m hurdle times in the state. Ruston also features fast times from the 4x400m and 4x800m, both of which could be a game-changer in regards to team score

Zachary, much like Ruston, is a well-rounded program and has a plethora of talented athletes. In sprints, Zachary is plenty talented with the likes of Kenson Tate and Chris Hilton. Both are strong sprints that range from the 100m to the 200m. Hilton also has the state-leading mark in the high jump and is currently ranked #5 in the nation. Tate also doubles in the long jump and is ranked #3 among 5A. Ashton Freeman rounds out the throws squad in the shot put with a competitive throw of 51-0. Finally, Rhen Langley leads the charge for the distance squad with one of the best 800m and 1600m times in the state. Close behind Langley is Caleb Ackman; these two have been a dangerous duo in distance and could show out at state.
