LHSAA Boys State Meet Preview

Boys 2A

The men's 2A championship is a run-off between Episcopal and Lafayette Christian Academy. These two teams are near opposites. Episcopal is relying upon throws and Lafayette is relying upon sprints. These two categories will most likely be affected by how other teams from their shared region perform.

Lafayette Christian's advantage is in the sprints and relays. Leading the charge in this is Caemon Scott. Scott is ranked #1 in both events qualifies in the 100m and 200m alongside his teammates Devin Walton and Darian Riggs. Following in the 400m, Ju Juan Johnson is ranked #2. Rounding out the sprinting squad, Ty Lee is ranked #1 in 2A in the 300m hurdles. This squad of runners is strong and will help deliver the majority of Lafayette's points during the upcoming meets. In throws, Lafayette has Fitzgerald West qualifying in the shot put and discus throw. His two marks in both are ranked #2 and #4, respectively,  in 2A which could turn into serious point gain during competition. Micah Miller accompanies West in the discus with the next best mark at #5. Capping off Lafayette's team is the relay squad. Lafayette's 4x100m, 4x200m, and 4x400m all qualify for regionals. This is a serious threat to all other teams because Lafayette holds the fastest times in 2A for both the 4x100m and 4x200m.

Episcopal's strengths lie within their relays, throws, and hurdles. Starring in the hurdles is the Ethan Hook and David Duggins duo. Both of these boys have qualified in the 110m and 300m hurdles and are easily two of the best hurdlers in 2A. Most likely they deliver a hard 1-2 finish in the 110m and gain some points against Lafayette in the 300m hurdles as well. Meanwhile, Clayton Braud will be in contention for a state title in the triple jump. In regards to field events, Oliver Jack leads the team in the shot put and discus throw and is ranked #1 in both events for 2A. Jack's teammate Austin Sybrandt takes the charge in the javelin by being ranked #1 and looks to deliver more points to his team. Episcopal also qualifies all of their relay teams which will no doubt benefit their point gain significantly.
