LHSAA Boys State Meet Preview

Boys Class C

Class C sparks a battle between Hackberry and Hornbeck. These two schools both do not rely on sprints for points, but Hackberry strongly represents in the throws and jumps. Hornbeck, on the other hand, gains the majority of its points from distance.

Hornbeck relies primarily upon distance athlete John Jett for the majority of its points. Jett qualifies to state in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m. He also holds the top times in class C in each of his events. Jett is immediately followed by his teammate Christian Condon in each of these events as well. In terms of the hurdles, Hornbeck's Joseph Nolen qualifies for both the 110m and 300m hurdles and is currently ranked #1 in the 110m hurdles. Kyote Pittman leads Hornbeck in the throws and qualifies for state in the shot put and javelin. To cap it off, Hornbeck shows strong 4x200m and 4x400m squads.

Hackberry is dependent on the performance of their field athletes. Coleman McCready leads class C in both the shot put and discus throw. Ben Ducote and Ely Walker both join McCready in the shot put and discus respectively.  Cameron Kyle joins McCready, as well, in the throws by qualifying for state in the javelin. Kyle also qualifies in the long, triple, and high jump. This deep squad can create a world of difference for the state championship and should be something for Hornbeck to keep in mind. This could end up being a rare instance in which a team could win a state title without hardly any running athletes. Also qualifying to state is Hackberry's 4x100, 4x200m, and 4x400m squads which will be sure to do well to buffer points from Hornbeck.
