PARKWAY'S DEVON OLIVER WATCHES HIS DISCUS FLY AT THE 2023 REGION 1-5A MEET

The great philosopher--and professional wrestler--Ric Flair said it best. "To be the man, you have to BEAT the man."

As far as the discus is concerned, Captain Shreve's Lionel Prudhomme is The Man--at least for this week.  After fouls on his first two attempts in the District 1-5A Meet, Prudhomme's third got him into the finals of the deepest district of talented throwers in the state.

In the finals, the junior, who is also one of the most highly sought after offensive linemen in Louisiana, unleashed a throw of 165-0.5 to beat the defending LHSAA Class 5A state champion--Parkway's Devon Oliver.

It broke a string of 12 victories for Oliver in discus competitions contested in state. 

For Prudhomme, it moved him from being ranked No. 50 in Louisiana to No. 5. Nationally, Prudhomme is less than five feet from being ranked in the top 50 among junior boys in the US.
