LHSAA Girls State Meet Preview

Class 1A presents two top teams that both arise from the same district. This creates an interesting outcome where some top athletes will not make it to the state meet. These two teams consist of Ouachita Christian and Cedar Creek.

Ouachita Christian gains most points from the sprints and relays. Jayden Ellerman leads the 100m and 400m in 1A and is complimented by Anna Dale Melton in the 200m. In the hurdles, Emery Wirtz ranks No. 2 in the 300m hurdles and is coupled with Ellie Fitzhugh, who also competes in the 100m hurdles. Fitzhugh also competes in the pole vault alongside Gracie Chen who is currently ranked No. 2 in 1A. Chen also competes in the high jump with Darcy Edgar and demonstrates to be a capable duo in the event.

Turning to the throws discipline, Allison Bentley has an opportunity to podium in the discus. Rounding out Ouachita's scoring potential are the 4x100m, 4x200m, and 4x400m relays. Ouachita is ranked No. 1 in 1A in each of these events.

Cedar Creek gains the majority of its points from distance events and the relays. Leading the 1600m and 3200m for Cedar Creek is Ansley Long. Long owns the fastest times in 1A in both events and is joined in the 3200m by Taylor Ramsey who is ranked at No. 4 in the event for 1A. Caroline James also joins long in the 1600m and is ranked No. 5 in the event. In the 800m, Lauren Osafo competes for a podium position.

Cedar Creek's distance squad is its greatest opportunity to score essential points and could capitalize on the lack of Ouachita Christian distance runners. Cara Beth Hill enters into the 400m with the potential to land a podium finish and is Cedar Creek's only entry in a sprint event.

Rileigh Geis and Sarah Adams represent the jump squad in the triple jump and long jump respectively. This duo has the opportunity to podium in their respective events or at least score key points. The throws discipline is held down by Ashlyn Bourn in the discus and then in the javelin by Annie Jones. Rounding out Cedar Creek's squad is the 4x400m. They are currently ranked No. 4 in 1A and could minimize any point lost from Ouachita Christian.
