The Southern University men's track team made a valiant push on Sunday with wins in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, high jump, 110 high hurdles and the 4x100m relay team at the 2009 SWAC Track and Field Championships, but came up short as they finished third, and the women's team fourth.

SU's Johnny Francois pulled the double win in 100m and 200m, while Leon Citizen won the 400m. KeDric Green captured the win in the 800m, while Patrick Jones won the 110 high hurdles. The 4x100 relay team (Rashad Mohammed, Leon Citizen, Corey Cushingberry, Johnny Francois) also took top honors at the Championships on Sunday. Jason House also won the high jump with a leap of 6-08.75m.

On the women's side on Sunday, Precious Collins won the 800m and 1500m, while Earldeka White finished second in the women's long jump.

Southern produced regional qualifier's for the men in: Johnny Francois (100m, 200m), Pratrick Jones (110 Hhurdles), KeDric Green (800m), Leon Citizen (400m) and 4x100m (Citizen, Francois, Mohammed, Cushingberry).

 

 

For the women: Precious Collins (800m), Brittany Manuel (Javelin) and Earldreka White (Triple jump) all qualified for regionals.
