Congratulations to Barbe's Jolie Jones and Ruston's Aidan Anding. They are this week's MileSplit LA Performers Of The Week. Both athletes will move to be included on the MileSplit LA Indoor Athlete Of The Year ballot later this month.
Anding had 1,961 votes to win the MileSplit LA Boys' Performer Of The Week honors. Slidell's Ramelo Howard was the runner up in the boys' poll with 959 votes.
It was a shoot-out in the girls' poll as Jones had 21,426 votes to take the win. Liberty Magnet freshman sprinter Destiny Harrison was the runner-up with 17,414 votes.
Anding made the boys' poll after his performance last weekend at the LSU Last Chance Qualifier. The LSU Football signee opened his senior year with the No. 1 long jump in Louisiana--22-11.
Likewise, Jones had an impressive at the LSU Last Chance Qualifier. She saved her best for last in the girls' shot put competition where she got off a throw of 40-3 on her final throw. Unfortunately, it came at cost. Jones hyperextended her right knee just before the release.
"I didn't even see it," Jones said when she was interviewed by MileSplit LA after the competition.
In three weeks, Anding will join North DeSoto's Javonte Taylor, David Thibodaux STEM's Emerson Cullen, Calvary's Jackson Burney, and Mansfield's Jaden Youngblood on the the ballot for MileSplit LA Boys' Indoor Athlete Of The Year.
Jones will join University Lab's Cate Williamson, Episcopal's Neva Lambert, Lafayette's Scarlett Petticrew, and East Ascension's Kiristen Mcgirt on the ballot for MileSplit LA Girls' Indoor Athlete Of The Year.
But those will not be the only names on the ballot. We will have two more weeks of MileSplit LA Performer Of The Week polls. You can nominate an athlete by emailing Jerry Byrd at milesplitlaeditor@gmail.com. Nominations are due by Sunday at 6pm.
