Trafton Girls / St. Paul's Boys win JH Titles

The Trafton Academy girls and the St. Paul's boys captured team titles in Wednesday's Ponchatoula HIgh-Trafton Academy Junior High Invitational held at the Swamp in Ponchatoula. Four local athletes earned MVP honors to lead their teams also. The Trafton girls scored (204) to take the title over Denham Springs JH(94), St. Scholastica Academy was third(82.50), St. Joseph's was fourth(57), Holy Ghost fifth(25), Harvest Christian sixth(12) and Mater Dolorosa seventh(9.50).  On the boys side, St. Paul's hauled in (231), while Denham Springs JH was second(106), Trafton Academy was third(57), Holy Ghost fourth(40), Harvest Christian fifth(34) and Mater Dolorosa sixth(12). 

Leading the Trafton attack was Overall MVP Jordan Strahan who captured individual titles in the pole vaul(5-0), high jump(4-4) and triple jump(30-03) and also posted a second place finish in the long jump(14-04).  Lady Eagle Regan Bolton earned the field MVP with a pair of wins in the shot put(29-11) and discus(73-10), she was second in the triple jump(27-11.25) and third in the javelin(67-10).  Trafton's Destiny Williams was named the track MVP with an individual win in the 1600(5:53.21), she was second in the 800(2:30.83), third in the 200(29.31) and led the lady eagles to a victory in the 1600 meter relay(4:43.55) along with Meghan Becerra, Maggie Crawford and Brenley Cooper.  Becerra also captured the 800 title in (2:29.74), was second in the discus(67-11) and joined Crawford, Lindsey Ferina and Crystal Cyprian on the winning 800 meter relay(1:55.82).  Crawford was the 400 meter champion(1:09.10) and also ran a leg on the third place 400 meter relay team(1:01.45) with Courtney Munkres, Cooper and Victoria Cefalu. St. Joseph's Allie Amerson captured the javelin win in (79-0), while Holy Ghost's Courtney Dawsey was the 55 meter hurdle champion(9.79) and 300 meter hurdle champion(52.71) and posted a fifth place finish in the long jump(13-06). St. Scholastica Academy's Samantha Vercher posted three individual wins in the 100(13.31), 200(28.32) and long jump(14-7.75) and also ran a leg on the Doves winning 400 meter relay team (57.22) joining Allison Naquin, Jaela Driver and Gabby Chaix. Leading the St. Paul's boys was Track MVP Francois Elzy with a pair of wins in the 100(11.53) and 200(25.09) and he was second in the long jump(16-07.50) and was on the winning 400 meter relay team(48.57) with Davenport, Guice and Wiles.  Austin Groenwald was the 400 meter champion(55.94), Spencer Albright captured the 1600(5:23), Landon Waite the 800(2:26), Andrew Earhardt the long jump(16-09.25), Oliver Guice the triple jump(37-0) and Chris Coyne was the javelin champion(111-08) for the Wolves.  Overall MVP Brady Becerra from Holy Ghost was a triple event winner in the 55 meter hurdles(7.79), 300 meter hurdles(42.20) and the high jump(5-07). Trafton Academy's Eric Coston posted the best time in the nation in the 3200 meters(9:53.54), which probably ranks as one of the best or even the fastest time ever run by a seventh grader ever!  Denham Springs John Ross earned the field MVP award with a pair of wins in the shot put(37-0) and discus(116-08) and was second in the javelin(110-07).
