BATON ROUGE, La. – Although the bulk of the Nicholls women's track and field team will be competing tomorrow, the Colonel relay teams made noise on Friday night claiming a team gold medal in one event, and qualifying for another final on Saturday on day one of the LSU Relays.
The women's 4x800-meter relay team blew away the field in crossing the tape in 9:11.79, which is now second all-time in the event at Nicholls. Their time was nearly 13 seconds faster than Akron's time and is the first team gold for the Colonels in only their second meet of the year.
The Colonels took home third in the 1600-meter sprint medley, clocking in at 4:05.03, finishing less than a second behind ULM for second place.
Of the eight teams that qualified for the 4x100-meter relay final on Saturday, the Colonels had the fifth fastest time of the preliminary in 47.98 seconds.
Day two of the LSU Relays begin tomorrow morning.
