BRAYDEN BERGLUND (6) WORKS HIS WAY TO THE FRONT IN FRIDAY'S FSU RELAYS 800m!
In Proverbs 27:17 it says that "Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another." If the last two weeks are any indication Mandeville junior Brayden Berglund is going to be razor-sharp by the end of the 2025 season.
Yesterday, Tallahassee, Florida Berglund recorded a personal record in his specialty, 800 meters, with a time of 1:53.53. His time was good enough for a fourth-place finish at the FSU Relays.
"I had my own lane, which was the first time, I think, all year so that was exciting," Berglund said via text on Saturday morning. "At the break, I was in a pretty good position in the front group. I didn't know the first lap split, but it felt pretty good. I didn't realize how far ahead the front guys were, but when I did I tried to make a move--but so did they."
"Overall, it was a good race, but definitely room for improvement," Berglund said.
It comes just six days after his performance at the Pete Boudreaux Invitational where he ran a 1:53.89 and finished second to Jesuit's Brandt Blanchard (1:51.95).
While Berglund's performance on Friday was only .36 faster than the time he ran last week, it did carry some significance on his ranking on Louisiana's all-time list for Louisiana juniors. Berglund moved from No. 8 to No.6--just ahead of Blanchard, who ran a 1:53.72 last year at the Region 3-5A Meet.
Only two half milers in Louisiana have run faster than Berglund this year--Blanchard and Calvary's Jackson Burney, who ran a 1:52.74 last week at the Jesuit-Sheaner Relays in Dallas.
Both Blanchard and Burney are seniors, which means that--as things stand now--Berglund will be Louisiana's No. 1 returner going into the 2026 season.
It is worth noting that Berglund's performance at Pete Boudreaux came after running a 4:20 in the 1600m earlier in the meet.
