A double event winning effort by McNeese standout David Rooney, two broken records and a tied record highlighted the McNeese Jeff Davis II indoor track and field meet on Saturday.

Rooney, the Cowboy junior who recently helped his Ireland national team to the European cross country championship, made his indoor debut by winning both the one mile run and the 800 meter run.

He didn't break the mile record he had set last year but he led a one-two-three Cowboy finish in the event with a 4:13 clocking while teammates Joshua Sawe (4:14.34) and Jarrett LeBlanc (4:15.69) finished second and third.

Rooney later won the 800 meter run in a 1:58.39 clocking.

"It was a good debut for him," said McNeese head coach Brendon Gilroy of Rooney.  "I thought that as a team we performed well tonight.  I want to also take this time to thank all of the officials who worked the meet.  We certainly appreciate everything that they do for us.  There is no way we can run a meet of this type without their help."

Rec-complex records were set in the women's division by Northwestern State's Tracey Rew with a 50-0 ½ effort in the shot put and by Kristal Kistieu-Yugh of the New York Athletic Club with a 66-2 ¼ effort in the weight throw.

Erica Bartolina, completing unattached, tied the women's pole vault record of 12-11.5, a mark that she holds with Sarah Broggese.

For McNeese, other first places in the men's division were captured by Torian Lindsey with a 50.31 clocking in the 400 meters and by the relay team of Charles Jackson, Michael Washington, Darren Keyes and Lindsey with a 3:26.17 effort in the 4x400 meter relay.
