WACO, Texas - Seniors Jessica McLeod and Lauren Jones each turned in top-50 performances on Saturday to lead the Colonels to a tie for 13th place at the 2010 NCAA South Central Regional Cross Country Championships in Waco, Texas.
After finishing sixth at the 2010 Southland Conference Cross Country Championships two weeks ago, the Colonels finished fifth among six conference schools at the regional meet.
McLeod led the way for the second straight week, clocking in with a 46th place time of 21:51.1. Jones, the Colonels' low finisher at last season's regional meet, was hot on her heels, covering the 6K course in 21:52.2.
Senior Kadi Whisnant followed with a 68th place time of 22:23.5 to give Nicholls three runners in the top-70. Freshmen Emily Charleseworth (83rd/22:59.4) and Jacki White (140th/25:01.6) rounded out the field for the Colonels in their first career postseason meet.
After totaling 328 points at the regional meet last season, Nicholls totaled 357 points to tie Texas Christian for 13th place, just 30 points removed from a top-ten regional finish.
