April 29, 2010 LAFAYETTE - Senior javelin thrower Leslie Bourgeois recorded the second best throw in school history to lead the Colonels in their final regular season tune-up at the Cole Lancoln Twilight at UL-Lafayette on Thursday. "The meet went well," head coach Scott Williamson said. "We won a lot of events, but this was a small tune-up meet. It was more important to see that our girls are continuing to do the things they need to do to peak at the right time of the season which is two weeks from now at the conference meet. Leslie did great in the javelin. She's been right on the cusp the last few weeks, and now she's broken through with a throw that should put her in the top ten in the region." Bourgeois's 47.81 m (156-10) throw to win the javelin by nearly nine feet was the biggest highlight for the Colonels. Among marks heading into this week's competition, Bourgeois's throw ranks eighth on the NCAA East Region performance list, and also surpassed the 47.00 m (154-2) 'B'-Standard qualifying mark for the U.S. Track and Field National Championships in June. Bourgeois's throw betters the current top mark in the Southland Conference of 45.10 m (147-11) by nearly nine feet.
