THURSDAY RESULTS | SATURDAY RESULTS This was the last competition for Southeastern before the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, set for May 14-16 at Maverick Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Lion men will be looking to repeat as SLC champs. “We accomplished our goals of getting a few more people qualified for the conference meet,” head coach Sean Brady said. “We also moved up the rankings with some of our top tier athletes. We are poised and ready, and now we’re hoping to reap the benefits of all the hard work we’ve done as a team.” Shallow beat Teremine White’s two- year old record to earn the school’s all-time best discus mark with a toss of 196 feet, 1 inch (59.77 meters), Saturday in Natchitoches, placing him second in the event, but first among collegians. He also broke his own record in the hammer throw, which he previously set just over a month ago, heaving the implement 222 feet, 1 inch (67.7 meters) at NSU. Shallow already owned the school shot put record, and while he didn’t break it Thursday in Lafayette, he did win the event with a throw of 58 feet, 7.5 inches (17.87). Shallow also won Thursday’s hammer throw event, as his best effort was marked at 214 feet, 3 inches (65.31 meters). Plus, he came in second in the ULL meet’s discus competition at 168 feet, 11 inches (51.49 meters). The only throwing event Shallow has yet to conquer is javelin. Chris Carter’s school record, set in 2006, still stands. That toss travelled 238 feet, 2.68 inches (72.6 meters). Kalphys Kemboi was the only other event winner among the men’s contingent this week, capturing the 3000 meter run at ULL with a season-best time of 8:56.19. The Lady Lions won five events at ULL, including the women’s pole vault. Lacey Sanchez and Brittany Pfantz both cleared the same height of 12 feet, 1.5 inches (3.7 meters), but since Sanchez did it in fewer tries, she was awarded first place. In throws, Southeastern dominated the competition. Amber Thomas won the hammer throw thanks to a mark of 150 feet, 8 inches (45.93 meters), as the Lady Lions took the top four spots. Shalicia Rochon topped the leaderboard in shot put, besting the field at 43 feet, 3 inches (13.18 meters), in an event where Southeastern had three of the top four finishers.
LAFAYETTE/NATCHITOCHES -- Adonson Shallow now owns three of the four men’s throwing records at Southeastern Louisiana following two more amazing performances this week. He led the Lions at Louisiana-Lafayette’s Cole-Lancon Twilight meet Thursday and the Northwestern State Invitational Saturday.
