ULM Track and Field Wraps Up Action at Alabama Relays

 TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The ULM track and field team concluded competition at the Alabama Relays on Sunday (March 28), the Warhawks competed in a number of different relay events as well as the remaining field events that were not contested on Saturday. Junior Jerrica Thomas posted the top finish of the day for ULM, taking third in the long jump.

Thomas claimed third in the women’s triple jump by posting a best leap of 12.08m (39-7 3/4) with her second of six attempts on the day. Thomas finished less than a foot behind first-place Ashley May of Southern Miss (12.42m, 40-9). The leap was also a season-best for Thomas. 

Sophomore Derek Dark earned a fourth-place finish, third among collegiate competitors, for ULM in the men’s shot put. Dark posted a best throw of 16.81m (55-2) with his second of six throws during the competition. The top throw of the day was by Derek McGuire (17.86m, 58-7 1/4), the highest-placed collegiate athlete was Brandon Colbert of Southeast Missouri State. 

In the women’s javelin, two Warhawks finished in the top seven as junior Marcie Richard took fourth-place, third among collegians, and freshman Jennifer Goss earned seventh, sixth-best of the collegiate competitors. Richard claimed her best effort with her second throw of the competition, 44.12m (144-9). Goss’ best mark came on her first of six throws during the event, 39.68m (130-2). Overall, Tammille Kerr posted the best distance (51.38m, 168-7), while Natasha Mouratidou of Lindenwood was the top-finishing college athlete. 

The men’s 4x200 meter relay team of sophomore Luther Ambrose, freshman Chase Fulco, freshman Dimitri Hampton and and sophomore Keyon Jones earned a fourth-place finish. The Warhawk foursome ran a time of 1:30.20, to finish third in heat two, just ahead of host-Alabama. Mississippi State won the relay with a time of 1:23.37. 

ULM’s also had a fourth-place finish from the men’s distance medley relay team. Sophomore Hunter Russell, Fulco, freshman Devin Caldwell and junior Moses Chelimo combined to run the medley relay in 10:27.06, Alabama won the event in 9:57.58. 

ULM will return to action next week when it travels to the Texas Relays. The four-day event in Austin, Texas begins on Wednesday (March 31).
