During the 2026 Louisiana high school indoor season, Vermilion Catholic freshmen Kelsey Bomersbach established herself as a name to watch in the hurdles. She finished on the podium of the LHSAA State Indoor Championships in the 60m hurdles with a personal record of 9.09.
Bomersbach is this week's MileSplit LA Future Star.
That was the fastest time of any freshman in Louisiana during the indoor season and ranked No. 14 nationally. It also ranks No. 4 all-time for Louisiana freshmen girls.
Bomersbach has used the momentum from a strong indoor campaign to jump start her outdoor season. Two weeks ago, she had personal records in both hurdle races at the Perfect Fitz Invitational. She won the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.06 and then returned later in the meet to run a 48.35.
She won the 100m hurdles and finished second to Delcambre's Emma Smith (47.40) in the 300m hurdles.
MileSplit LA asked Bomersbach what she loved the most about track and field.
"The technicality of the hurdles and the competition of the meet," Bomersbach said. "You make so many friends at the meets and learn new things.
Bomersbach said one of he early meets in her caree that gave her confidence to do big things was the 2025 LHSAA State Indoor Meet.
"I placed third and I was finally able to three step hurdles," Bomersbach said. "I shocked my coaches, my parents, and myself."
Bomersbach credits her father for helping to motivate her to reach her potential.
"He has helped me since my sixth grade year," Bomerbach said. "He taught me the mechanics until I got to the eighth grade and Coach Trevon and Coach Blakey have helped me to fine tune my skills. From my block starts to my touchdown off the hurdles, they have helped me with getting better."
When Bomersbach is not training or competing, she enjoys hanging out with her mom and dog, Abbie, and designing on Minecraft.
