JAXON TALLEY COMPETES AT THE REGION 1-5A MEET IN APRIL
Jaxon Talley, who is coming off one of the most successful seasons for a freshman high school javelin thrower in Louisiana history, won the 15-16 boys' division at the USATF National Junior Olympics in College Station on Thursday.
The third round in the preliminaries is when most of the action took place. Missouri's Bryson Jacobs (195-9) took the lead before Tally's personal record throw of 201-00 followed in the same round.
Jacobs' throw was a personal record throw as well-by 23 feet. Jacob's previous best throw came at the MSHASAA State Outdoor Meet where he finished as the runner-up.
Talley can relate. He finished second at the LHSAA Class 5A State Championship to Catholic's Paul Catalanatto with a throw of 194-4.
Talley and Jacobs were joined on the podium by Alexandria's Noble Williams, who finished third with a throw of 172-9.
Williams' throw also came in the third round.
Tally, competing in the bottom of the age group for Ultimate Performance, was seven and a half feet short of the national record set by William Stanley III in the 2010.
It's the second time this year Talley has broken the 200 feet barrier. The first came at West Monroe's home meet-the Coach Jack Williams Rebel Relays in early April.
Talley is the All-Time No. 1 ranked javelin thrower in the MileSplit LA database.
