LOUISE MCGEHEE'S KALI MAGANA CROSSES THE LINE IN THE 2023 LHSAA CLASS 1A 100m!

It's Day of Three of our series where we take a look at the most watched video from every classification. Today, we take a look at the LHSAA Class 1 State Outdoor Track & Field Championships. If you missed a previous article on Class B or Class C, you can catch up by clicking on the links to those articles at the bottom.

CLASS 1A BOYS (100m)

Logansport's Jamarcus Jones missed last year's LHSAA State Outdoor Meet due to disciplinary reasons. He made the most of his second chance during his senior year, being ranked near the top of the rankings all season.

One long-time coach referred to Jones as a "man among boys" after watching him at the Region 1-1A Meet.

Jones, who will continue his running career at Hinds Community College in Mississippi, certainly proved at the LHSAA State Outdoor Championships that they hype is real by winning the 100m with a time of 10.59. He also finished fourth in the 200m with a time of 22.18.

Coming in second in this 100m race is Kentwood's Jermaine Brown, who ran a time of 10.68. It's the second year in a row that Brown has been the runner-up in the event.

Later in the meet, Brown would go on to defend his state championship in the 200m by winning with a time of 21.53).

CLASS 1A GIRLS (400m)

It was the Kali Magana Show in the Class 1A girls' 400m as she won the event by almost five seconds. Magana's time was 54.58. Magan's teammate Nadia Jones finished second with a time of 59.04.

Earlier in the meet, Magana won the 100m (12.12). After this 400m race, she would win the 200m (24.78). She also ran a leg on Louise McGehee's winning 4x400m relay (4:06.24).

Of course, she took home the Meet's MVP Award. It was her second year in a row to earn the individual accomplishment, but more important to Magana is the fact that Louise McGehee won the Class 1A state championship for the second year in row.

Magana plans to compete internationally this summer, and we wish her all the best and congratulate her on an outstanding high school career. We cannot wait to see what she does at the University of Houston.
