KAITLYN SAWYER AND NOAH WATSON BATTLE IT OUT AT LAST YEAR'S LHSAA STATE MEET
CLASS B BOYS (110m hurdles)
JS Clark Leadership Academy freshman Kevin Brown put on a show in the Class B boys 110m hurdles. He beat another youngster--Nathan Harvey from Quitman, who would return later in the meet and win his first state championship in the 300m hurdles with a time of 41.14.
Brown's time in winning this race was 16.10, not far off his season best of 15.81. Harvey finished with 16.37.
It's going to be fun to watch these two youngsters in the years to come.
CLASS B GIRLS (3200m)
Christ Episcopal's Noah Watson and Hathaway's Kaitlyn Sawyer battled it out once again in the final individual event at the 2024 LHSAA Class B State Championships. Watson won with a time of 12:06. Sawyer was second with 12:18.
Last year, Watson left the 2023 LHSAA State Outdoor Meet with three medals, but none of them were gold medals. On last Thursday night, Watson was able to climb to the top of the podim at Bernie Moore Stadium at the end of a state outdoor meet for the first time.
For those watching this race on this Thursday, it was a familiar scene. The girls, who are good friends off the track, battled in the both the 1600m and 800m. Sawyer won both of the races (5:20, 2:23) while Watson was a close second in both (5:24, 2:26).
