OUACHITA'S TRE BRASS COMPETES AT THE 2023 HOSS GARRETT RELAYS
Congratulations to Ouachita's Tre Brass and Quitman's Kaleigh King! They were the big winners in this week's MileSplit LA Performer of the Week poll. Both athletes will move on to compete for MileSplit Outdoor Athlete of the Year at the end of the season.
King made this week's ballot after winning three individual events and leading Quitman to the team title at Many's Raising Cane's Small School Track Classic. In that meet, King won both hurdle races and the pole vault.
She won the 100m hurdles (17.96) and 300m hurdles (53.22). King jumped 6-6 to take the pole vault.
The following week, at the Castor Invitational, King won both hurdle races again to remain undefeated on the season.
King finished with 1,096 votes edging out Jonesboro Hodge's Ciara Gray (854 votes).
The POTW win for Brass was not as close. Brass had 3,140 votes. That was a little over a 1,000 points more than runner Alexandria's Hunter Rivet, who had 2090 votes.
A junior at Ouachita, Brass had a personal record of 22.95 in the 200m at Neville's Van Leigh Relays to make the poll. In the same meet, he also had a podium finish in the 400m as he came in 2nd with a time of 51.30.
