Catholic's Young And The Restless Lead Bears to Win!

WILLIAM DECUIR COULDN'T CONTAIN HIMSELF AS HE CROSSED THE LINE OF THE 1600m SATURDAY

"Let's go!"

Catholic High sophomore William Decuir couldn't contain himself as he crossed the line of the boys' 1600m at the Pete Boudreaux Invitational on Saturday. Decuir, who took command of the race on the bell lap, finished with a time of 4:16.92.

Decuir's performance highlighted a team effort for the 2025 LHSAA D1 State Indoor Champions who scored 199 points, 88 more than runner-up E.D. White.

LOUISIANA SOPHOMORE BOYS' 1600m ALL-TIME LIST!

It's the fastest time in Louisiana this year, and it's No. 3 All-Time for sophomore boys in Louisiana.

A little over two seconds behind Decuir was another sophomore, Parkway's Brennan Robin, in his second meet back after sitting out the 2025 season with a foot injury, finished with a 4:19.15, which ranks No. 5 All-Time on the sophomore list.

Decuir and Robin lead Louisiana's Young & The Restless distance runners. Their performance on Saturday whet the appetite of Louisiana high school track and field fans who are ready to watch the drama unfold at the 2025 LHSAA State Outdoor Championships.

But Decuir and Robin were not alone on Saturday. The top nine 1600m times in Louisiana were turned in at Saturday's meet.

Behind the two sophomores were a pair of juniors--Mandeville's Brayden Berglund and Highland Baptist's Tyler Blissett. Berglund finished the 1600m with a time of 4:20.07.

Incredibly, he returned later in the meet and finished as a runner-up in the 800m with a time of 1:53.89. That time broke the venue record, but that record now belongs to Jesuit's Brandt Blanchard, who won on Saturday with a 1:51.95-No. 6 all-time on the Louisiana list.

Blissett, who ranks No. 6 on the Louisiana's All-Time freshmen list and No. 7 on the All-Time sophomore list, finished fourth with a time of 4:20.53, a little over half a second slower than his season best of 4:19.95 last year.

Decuir wasn't the only young Catholic distance runner to leave Saturday's meet with a win. Freshman Augustin Juneau, who is coming off an indoor season in which he made it to the podium at the LHSAA State Indoor Meet in the 3200m with a personal record  9:32.75, won the Pete Boudreaux Invitational with a 10:05.68.

While Decuir and Juneau were taking care of business on the track, junior Jack Torrance was doing his thing in the field events where he won both the shot put (52-10) and discus (160-4).

An even more impressive feat for the Catholic's throws group was the fact they finished first, second, and third in the javelin. Robert Conley won with a 178-3.

The Bears also picked up wins in the 4x200m (1:28.5) and 4x400m (3:21.56). Joshua Dowdell, Harrison Lalande, Alex Huffine, and Christopher McCullen made up the 800m relay, which ranks No. 4 the state. Henry Mensman and Amari Clayton joined McCullen and Lalande with a state-leading time in the 1500m relay.

Other winners for Catholic include freshman Brady Biossat, who won the high jump with a clearance at 5-6.
