HOUSTON - Sophomore sprinter Samantha Calhoun led the way for the Nicholls State University women's track team as the Colonels put together a strong showing at the Leonard Hilton Memorial at the University of Houston on Friday night.

Calhoun, who set school records in the 60 m dash and 200 m dash at the season opening Arkansas State Kickoff Classic six weeks ago, fell just shy of accomplishing the same feat on Friday night.

The Morgan City, La. native clocked in at 7.70 in the 60 m dash, just 0.05 seconds off her school record time. Later in the afternoon, Calhoun claimed third place in the 200 m dash by tying teammate Ashley Carpenter for second on the school's indoor 200 m list. Calhoun clocked in at 25.45, just 0.03 off her own school record and just 0.17 seconds behind Tulane's Olivia Kizzie for first place.

The Colonels also saw a strong showing in the 200 from Carpenter, who turned in the second-best time of her career with an eighth-place time of 25.95 in the 200 to earn the Colonels' other top-ten finish on the night.

Nicholls will now return to Louisiana for the Purple Tiger Invitational at LSU on Feb. 22 and 23.
