At the conclusion of the 2022 La. HS track and field outdoor season, there was no question who was the fastest high school sprinter in the state. Holy Cross' Krosse Johnson left no doubt at the LHSAA State Outdoor Meet. However, during the 2023 indoor season there has been a changing of the guard at the top of the Louisiana high school sprint rankings. Warren Easton's Germain Smith-Mata is the new leader in the clubhouse. 

If anyone questioned his early season success in club meets, they quickly learned that he was the real deal during the Louisiana high school indoor season. Smith-Mata put an exclamation on his season by holding off a plethora of talent to claim his first state title in the 60m, winning with a 6.76. 

Not far behind Smith-Mata were the Fastest Twins in the Nation--Carencro's Kohen Beavers (6.79) and Kalen Beavers (6.79).
