Everything maybe bigger in Texas, but two Louisiana sprinters made their way to the Carl Lewis Invitational this weekend and showed the Lone Star State that "The Boot" has some guys who can roll with anyone in the nation.
It started Friday night when Westgate's Mekhi Boutte dropped a 21.80 in his first 200m indoors this season. The time is currently No. 16 in the nation.
The following day, Boutte lowered his season best in the 60m to 6.91, finishing third.
Warren Easton's Germain Smith-Mata finished second in the 60m with a 6.85. In the prelims, Smith-Mata ran a 6.76, which currently is No. 4 in the nation.
With two weeks of the 2023 indoor season behind us, the action on the track is beginning to heat up. Look for these times and distances to continue to drop this Saturday as many of the best in the state will head to the LSU High School Qualifier in Baton Rouge.
