LAST YEAR'S TEAM STATE MEET SCORING!

Class 1A Team to Watch: Ouachita Christian Boys' & Girls'

The Eagles swept team honors a year ago. It was the second time in school history as OCS also accomplished the feat in 2012. When this year's seniors was in the eighth grade, varsity track coach Steven Fitzhugh brought 10 girls and 10 boys down to Baton Rouge to let them know what they would be working for when they moved to high school.

Class 1A Athletes to Watch: Chase Walker, Ascension Catholic

CHASE WALKER (5) ON HIS WAY TO A CLASS 1A 1600m TITLE AT THE 2021 LHSAA STATE MEET!

     .08!
That's how close Ascension Catholic's Chase Walker was from winning three state titles a year ago in the 2021 LHSAA Class 1A State Outdoor Championships.

Walker finished second to Ouachita Christian's Jay Parker. Walker finished with a time of 10:24.90. Parker lunged ahead at the line and clocked a 10:24.83.

Walker is back for his senior year finale at Bernie Moore. The defending champion in both the 1600m and 800m. He is looking to accomplish what he fell short of a year ago.

Class 1A Race to Watch: Class 1A Boys' 1600m!

This race has everything you could ask for.

Drama?  Check! Let's start with this. The defending champion, Ascension's Catholic's Chase Walker is seeded No. 3 going into the race.

History? Check! Ouachita Christian's Jay Parker and Walker will need no introductions as they step to the starting line of the boys 1600m. They are very familiar with each other after last year's Class 1A 3200m where it went down to the wire. Parker won with a 10:24.83. Walker, who had won the 1600 and 800 earlier in the meet, finished second with 10:24.90.

A dominant distance duo? Check! Metarie Park's Johnathan Zink (4:38.3) and Paul Emonet (4:40.31) are the No. 1 and No. 2 seed, respectively.
