Tech Track Runs to Success at Louisiana Classic




LAFAYETTE, La. -- The Louisiana Tech track and field team began in good fashion its quest for back-to-back-to-back outdoor conference championships at the Louisiana Classic on the campus of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

Senior Lasadies McClain led the Tech sprinters with a first place finish in the women’s 200-meter dash with a time of 24.61 seconds, while freshman Kamelia Stroy took first in the women’s 400 at 56.61. Senior Miriam Barnes took first place in the 800 with a mark of 2:15.29.

The women’s 4x400-meter relay teams finished first and second places, even with mixing up teams. Seniors Latonia Wilson and Tenisha Mays along with Stroy and freshman Shannon Williams took first at 3:45.42, while senior Nina Gilbert with McClain, Barnes and sophomore El Charrita Reynolds took second at 3:45.53.

In the throws, senior Shaterika Allen took first place in the shot put with a throw of 47 feet, 3.50 inches for a regional qualifying mark, while sophomore Phelecia Reynolds took first in the discus at 160-07 for another regional qualifying mark.

Senior Matt Craig took a collegiate first place finish in the long jump at 22-09.00.

Senior Jason Morgan finished first in the discus at 187-02 as an unattached athlete.
