"We had strong competitors on both teams today," said track and field head coach Mike Heimermann. "Annie Fillers led for us on the women's side and Albert and Mitch crossed the line at almost the exact same time, showing the amount of competitiveness amongst our team."
Fillers, a freshman, shaved off approximately nine seconds from her 5000 meter time last Saturday at the Louisiana Tech Mook 5 Invitational, crossing the line in 20:40.72, good enough for a 32nd place finish.
Maya Robertson and Asah James finished next for NSU, picking up times of 24:53.88 and 25:23.00, respectively.
Albert Gladney and Mitch Landry finished the men's four-mile course within inches of each other, noting times of 21:35.07 for Gladney and 21:35.39 for Landry. The two put up 32nd and 33rd place finishes.
Sophomore Jeremy Elliott and freshman Lucas Moncla marked finishes in 23:40.39 and 23:59.44.
Joining the Demons and Lady Demons, along with host McNeese were Central Arkansas, Louisiana Tech, LSU, Nicholls State, Southeastern, Southern, Southern New Orleans, Tulane and Louisiana-Lafayette.
Both teams will compete at the Centenary Invitational on Saturday at nine o'clock at the Clyde Fant Disc Course in Shreveport.
