MileSplit LA FAQ: West Feliciana's Tristen Harris!

In this week's MileSplit LA FAQ, we spotlight West Feliciana junior Tristen Harris. She finished fourth in both the long jump (18-10) and the 60m (7.60) at the LSU High School Classic. Her time in the 60m, is the fastest time in Louisiana, and she owns the best mark in the nation in the long jump (20-0.5), a mark she jumped at the North Texas Showcase. 

MileSplit LA: How did you get involved in track and field?

Harris: I started with girls on the run when I was in elementary school then I found out what summer track was and started doing that and that's where it started.

MileSplit LA: What is your favorite thing about the sport of track and field?

Harris: The thrill

MileSplit LA: What accomplishment/meet/performance are you most proud of?

Harris: North Texas Showcase where I jumped 20ft in long jump.

MileSplit LA: What is the main thing your coach has done to help you become the best that you can be?

Harris: Believed in me, worked with me day after day, and never gave up on me.

MileSplit LA: How has your family supported you during your track and field career?

Harris: They're always there for me supporting me and my decisions no matter what. They will always be there at my meets cheering me on.

MileSplit LA: What is your favorite event and why is it your favorite?

Harris: Long jump and the 200 because I enjoy doing them and I like to watch others do it.

MileSplit LA: What are your goals for this season?

Harris: First thing is to make it through the season 110% healthy. I want to jump 20'8" in long jump, run 23.9 in the 200, run 11.4 in the 100, and run 7.5 in the 60m.

MileSplit LA: If you could change one thing about track and field, what would it be?

Harris: How athletes long jump marks end up being a foul even if they're barely over the board.

MileSplit LA: If you could take one characteristic of one of your teammates, what would it be and why?

Harris: Her cheerfulness because it's just really nice and I'm not always cheerful.

MileSplit LA: Is there a competitor you love competing against more than others? Who is it, and what is it about competing against them?

Harris: Talar Johnson because she helps to push me.

MileSplit LA: What is your favorite meet and why is it your favorite? 

Harris: North Texas Showcase because I accomplished my goal.
