LAFAYETTE, La. - Freshman Kerri Simmons finished just .75 inches shy of a school record as the Nicholls State University shot putter launched a throw of 13.55 m (44 ft. 5.5 in.), recording the second best mark in the history of the program on day one of the Louisiana Classics on Friday night in Lafayette.

Senior distance runner Lauren Jones led the way for the Colonels on Saturday, setting a new school record in the 3,000 m run. The Centerville, Iowa native clocked in at 10:26.75, nearly ten seconds better than her previous school record set last April, as the Nicholls State University women's track and field team wrapped up competition at the Louisiana Classics.
