LAFAYETTE - First place efforts by Ben Chretien, Edwin Koenck, Jarrett LeBlanc and Michael Dyer paced McNeese State here Saturday during the running of the Louisiana Classics track and field meet hosted by UL-Lafayette. Chretien won the javelin with a throw of 215-2.28 while Koenck took the steeplechase with a time of 10:20.83, LeBlanc won the 1500 meter run in 3:56.06 and Dyer claimed the 800 meters in 1:54.42. Most of the schools in Louisiana participated in the meet for which LSU claimed 11 first places. Producing second place efforts for the Cowboys were Benjamin Reynolds with a 14.54 effort in the 110 high hurdles and Thomas Canchola with a 51-9.65 toss in the shot put. On Friday, Ryan Barrow had won the 10,000 meters for the Cowboys and Candice McCormick had taken the event for the Cowgirls. Other top 10 finishes for the Cowboys in the meet came from Johnathan Koenck with a fifth in the 1500 meters (4:00.52), a fourth by the 4x100 meter relay team of Ronald Stine, Torian Lindsey, Ryan Thomason and Charles Jackson (42.30), a sixth by Napoleon Robicheaux in the high hurdles (15.82), a fifth by the 4x400 relay team of Donovan Anderson, Stine, Chris Avery and Lindsey (3:22.63), a sixth by Canchola in the hammer (158.23), a fifth by Wiley Collins in the javelin (202-9), a third by Sunny Singh in the high jump (6-5.95), a 10th by Lance Ardoin in the pole vault (13-11.71) and a fifth by Jared Crafton in the discus (148-6.67). For the Cowgirls, the 4x100 relay team of Ashleigh Wells, Andrea Myers, Kayla Fontenot and Paige Lynch finished fourth at 48.92, Amy Guinn ran sixth in the 1500 meters (4:41.94), Franki Taylor was ninth in the 100 hurdles (17.41), Wells was fourth in the 100 meters (12.40), Lynch was fifth in the 100 (12.42), D'Anna Lambert was ninth in the 800 meters (2:23.65), Racheal Easton ran fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:05.86), the 4x400 relay team of Wells, Easton, Kara Slaydon and Lambert ran seventh at 4:03.52, La'Shantena Rounds was fourth in the shot put (45-11), Ashlee Smith was ninth in the hammer (120-7) and fourth in the discus (142-8.59), Amanda Lejeune was fifth in the javelin (133-6), Laura Kerr was sixth (132-0), Erin Kleckley was third in the pole valult (10-11.88) and Andrea Myers went 5-3.77 in the high jump for third place. McNeese will be back in action next Saturday in the Bobby Lane Invitational at UT Arlington.
