Lions 4x400 Enjoys Season-Best Performance

MOBILE, Ala. –
 Four individual athletes and the men's relay teams took home event victories Saturday for Southeastern Louisiana at the USA Invitational in Mobile, Ala.

For the Lady Lions, Brittany Pfantz claimed the pole vault (3.65m) and Shalicia Rochon won the shot put (13.92m).

Kovey Simmons (men's pole vault, 5.10m) and Phillippe Moore (men's long jump, 7.22m) took home wins on the men's side.

The day, however, was highlighted by first-place finishes in both the men's 4x100 (42.24 sec) and 4x400-meter relays (3:14.95). Tavarus ArbuthnotT.J. Herbert,Brandon Daniels and Abram Taylor teamed on the 4x100. Taylor, Herbert, Brendon Mitchell and Shaq Windley combined for a season-best performance in the 4x400.

“It was a small meet with not a lot of energy or enthusiasm, but it gave us an opportunity to get in the trenches and do some coaching,” head coach Sean Brady said.

The Lady Lions also had several second-place finishes. The 4x400 team of Tamra GraysonC'Arra WattsKeisha Celestine and Alicia Noel ran the relay in 4:04.15. Ikea Kaufman finished second in the high jump (1.62m) and Nia Stewart set a personal record in the long jump (5.80m).

Jenna Baker placed second in the women's javelin throw (39.45m) and Jordan Hartney finished third (38.40m).

Other third place finishes for the Lady Lions included Nia Stewart in the 100-meter dash (12.01 sec), Heather Fitzhenry in the 800-meter run (2:24:44) and the 4x100 relay team (47.88 sec) of Bernadette Derosier, Stewart, Noel and Sydni Jones.

Holland Bussell placed third in the men's triple jump (14.10m) and Jeff Milliron finished third in the men's shot put (15.80m).

Southeastern returns to action Friday in Hammond, hosting the Southeastern Lion Invitational.
