Track Team Breaks Several Records at the Jeff Davis/Mcneese Indoor Meet

The McNeese State track team hosted the Jeff Davis/McNeese Indoor track meet Friday at the McNeese recreation complex, the second meet hosted by the team this season.
The team broke several records in the meet including a shot put record that was broken by two Cowgirl throwers.

La'Shantena Rounds demolished her old record of 56-5 ¾ in the weight throw with a new school record throw of 60-5 ¼.   Fellow Cowgirl Ashlee Smith also broke the previous record with a throw of 58-11 ½. The Cowgirls also finished one-two in the shot put.   Rounds won with her throw of  46.00 3/4 and Wells throw of 45-5 ¾ gave her second.

The Cowboys swept the  one mile run and Alex Bruce-Littlewood broke the school record in the mile with a time of 4:06.19 in just his first season with McNeese,.   Second place went to Jarrett LeBlanc with a 4:08.21 time and Jonathon Koenck finished the sweep running a time of 4:18.26.

“It felt really good to get that record,” said Littlewood.  “We have been training with David Rooney (previous record holder) and the results of the race shows that we are all been getting better.”

McNeese swept another event, this time the women's 200 meter dash. Ashleigh Wells also broke the Rec-Complex record in the 200 Merters with a time of 25.01.  Finishing second was Paige Lynch with a time of 25.95 and Mariah Georgetown 25.16.  Simone Johnson took fifth in that race with a 26.21 time.

Jared Crafton and Thomas Canchola finished second and third in the weight throws of 16.43 and 15.70 respectively. Canchola also finished third in the shot put with a distance of 50-11 ½.

Alyssa Cotton finished tied for fourth place in the pole vault with a vault of 10-06 feet and Lance Ardoin took sixth in the men's division with his vault of 14-11.

In the women's 400 meter dash Cowgirl Desarae Couthren took fourth place with a time of 59.62 and Morgan Wells ran a 51.97 in the men's race to finish third.

Fionnuala Ross won the women's mile race, finishing with a time of 5:08.27 and Angelina Covington took sixth place with her time of 5:24.36.

In the 3000 meter run Allison Crawford ran a 10:48.68 which gave her fifth place.  On the men's side Brock Moreaux finished in fourth place with his time of 8:46.67 and Lewi Manirumva finished in sixth with his 8:52.05 time while Andrew Kogut was a close seventh with a time of 8:52.66.

McNeese finished well in the 4X400 meter relay.  The women won the race with their time of 3:26.41 while the men place fifth with their time of 3:29.83.

Cody Skarupa won the 600 meter run with a 1:22.12 time.  Also, the McNeese women's team won the distance medley wth a time of 12:41.15.

McNeese head track coach Brendon Gilroy was very pleased with his team's performance saying, “We did well in several events today, especially the men's mile run.  Our athlete's are training very hard and getting better every day.  I'm very proud of them.”
