McNeese hosts high school indoor meet

 

There were more than 75 schools and 500 athletes participating in the annual McNeese State High School Indoor I track and field meet on the school campus Saturday.

            During the all-day meet in the Ralph O. Ward Rec-Complex, numerous standout performances were turned in by the prep athletes, many of them from Southwest Louisiana.

            Barbe High's Zack Cart won the boys 55 meter dash in a 6.61 clocking while Caleb Bertrand of Elton High and Derek Foreman of Sulphur High deadlocked at 15-0 in the pole vault with Bertrand taking first place on fewer misses.

            Also, Addison Martinez of Jennings High won the girl's pole vault at 11-6 and Sam Pavlovich of Sam Houston High took the girls 1600 meter run with a 5:32.62 clocking.

            Other top efforts came from Jacob Chicola of Buckeye High with a 4:41.61 winning time in the boys 1600 meters, from Lionel Glasper of W. L. Cohen with a 52.62 in the boys 400 meters, from Cedric Paul of Franklin with a 49-0.75 in the boys shot put (winning by six feet) and from David Seals of Hammond High school with a 19-3.50 in the long jump.  He also finished second in the triple with a leap of 39-4.

            St. Thomas Aquinas High captured two boys distance running titles as Tommy Brocato won the 800 meters with a 2:04.85 clocking and Corbett Ourso won the 3200 meters at 10:17.38.
