Cowboys and Cowgirls do well at Louisiana Classics

 LAFAYETTE - A victory by Alvy Carragher and two second  places by Charles Jackson highlighted McNeese State's performance Saturday in the Louisiana Classics track and field meet at UL-Lafayette.

            Carragher won the women's 5,000 meter run in 18:18.11 while Jackson took runnerup spots in both the men's 100 meters and the 200 meters.  In the 100 meters he posted a 10.61 and was the top collegiate finisher.  In the 200 he ran 21.54.

            Also taking a second place for the Cowboys was Joshua Sawe with a 1:55.03 clocking in the 800 meters.

            Other top 10 efforts for McNeese were a third place by Lance Ardoin in the pole vault (15-1), a third by Ashlee Smith in the women's discus (163-1) and a sixth by DeAnn Washingotn (144-5), a fourth by Meraiah Young in the javelin (143-3), a fourth by Desarae Couthren with a 14.76 in the 100 hurdles, a fifth by Thomas Canchola in the shot put (53-8 ½), a fifth place by Jacqueline Berry with 37-3.25 in the triple jump, a sixth by Parminder Singh in the high jump (6-8 ¾), a sixth by Torian Lindsey with a 48.33 in the 400 meters, a sixth by Jasmine Cornelius  (17-9) and a ninth by Courtnei Carter (17-5.25) in the long jump, a sixth place by the women's 4x100 relay team (47.06) of Paige Lynch, Ashleigh Wells, Couthren and Mariah Georgetown, a seventh place by Amy Talbot with 2:15.0 in the 800 meters, a ninth place by Ashleigh Wells with 12.52 in the 100 meters and an eighth in the 200 meters at 24.84, an eighth place in the 4x400 relay by Jasmine Cornelius, Racheal Easton, Emily Spence and Talbot with a 4:06.85 effort, a ninth by DeAnn Washington (149-5) in the hammer and a 10th by Chance Curlee (176-2) in the javelin

            The Cowboys also placed third in the 4x100 meter relay with Jackson running the second leg.  Other members of the team were Ryan Thomason, Darren Keyes and Lindsey.  They posted a 41.02 effort.

            Other finishes for the Cowgirls had Fionnuala Ross run 5:01.29 for 12th place and Allison Crawford 5:05.89 for 14th place in the 1500 meters, Lynch run 12.78 for 19th, Jacqueline Berry run 12.68 for 23rd and Courtnei Carter run 12.89 for 26th in the 100 meters, Easton run 1:06.5 for 12th and Emily Spence go 1:07.24 for 14th in the 400 hurdles, Cornelius run 25.78 for 20th place, Couthren run 26.29 for 27th place and Lynch run 26.82 for 33rd place in the 200 meters, Ashlee Smith go 145-1 for 15th place and La'Shantena Rounds go 130-1 for 18th place in the hammer, Berry go 16-10.5 in the long jump, Amanda Lejeune 122-6 for 16th place in the javelin, Alex Kiptoo run 4:07.61 for 13th place in the 1500 meters,  Keyes run 11.02 for 13th, Thomason 11.22 for 17th, SirPatrick Patterson run 11.68 for 25th and Napoleon Robicheaux run 12.04 for 29thplace in the 100 meters, Michael Washington run 2:00.31 for 16th place in the 800 meters, Keyes run 21.97 for 15th, Lindsey 22.03 for 16th, Patterson 23.0 for 36th in the 200 meters and Robicheaux go 21-2 for 12th place in the long jump.

            McNeese head coach Brendon Gilroy said that he felt his team turned in a competitive effort and that several athletes produced career and seasons bests.
