Cowboys and Cowgirls compete in Houston indoor meet

 HOUSTON - A school record by Mariah Georgetown, a second place effort  by Jasmine Cornelius and third place finishes by Jarrett LeBlanc and Brent Ewing highlighted McNeese State's performance Saturday in the Houston Cougar indoor track and field classic.

            Georgetown, a freshman, broke the record of 9:05 in the 60 hurdles, turning in an 8.73 10th place effort.  Antwanette Reece had set the record in 2002.

            Cornelius finished second in the women's long jump with a leap of 18-3.

            LeBlanc ran third in the men's 800 meter run with a clocking of 1:56.14 while Ewing ran third in the 5000 meter run with a 15:38.18 effort.

            Other top 10 efforts for the Cowboys were an eighth place effort by Charles Jackson (22.42) and a ninth by Torian Lindsey (22.56) in the 200 meters, 10th by Lindsey in the 400 meters (50.23), ninth by Kevin Laughlin in the 5000 meters (16:07.83) and 10th by Joshua Sawe in the 800 meters (1:58.03).

            For the Cowgirls, other top 10 efforts were a 10th by Ashleigh Wells in the 200 meters (25.49) and a  10th by DeAnn Washington in the shot put (43-4 1/2).

            Georgetown finished seventh in the women's pentathlon with 3,177 points.  She finished first in the 60 hurdles, sixth in the high jump, ninth in the shot put, seventh in the long jump and 11th in the 800 meters.

            Kayla Fontenot placed 12th with 2,990 points.  She was 12th in the 60 hurdles, 13th in the high jump, first in the shot put, fifth in the long jump and 13th in the 800 meters.

            In the men's heptathlon, Jim Marcantel placed ninth with 4,164 points.  He finished 11th in the 60 meters, was 16th in the long jump, 16thin the shot put, 14th in the high jump, 13th in the 60 hurdles, sixth in the pole vault and sixth in the 1000 meters.

            Rodney Prosper placed 14th with 3,596 points and had a seventh place in the high jumpl and a seventh in the 1000 meters.
