McNeese Cowboys finish 11th at Roy Griak Invite / Cowgirls win LSU invitational cross country meet

 

 

Baton Rouge - McNeese State's Cowgirls won the LSU invitational cross country meet here Saturday with Tinette Burger, Amy Guinn and Fionnuala Ross leading the way.

With three runners in the top 10, the Cowgirls scored 38 points to outdistance Houston which was runnerup with 57 points.  Tulane finished third with 73, LSU was fourth at 75 and Houston Baptist fifth with 142.

Other team scoring had SE Louisiana with 161, UL-Monroe 201, Northwestern State 233, UL-Lafayette 236, Southern 316, Xavier 323 and Jackson State 335.

Burger led the Cowgirls in the 6K run with a 20:54.83 clocking.  She was nipped at the finish line by Tulane's Julia Whitrock who posted a 20:53.40 clocking.

Guinn finished fourth at 21:18.14 while Ross was ninth at 21:29.09.

Also for the Cowgirls, Alvy Garragher ran 13th at 21:50.07 and Georgia Ball was 14th at 21:56.97.

Other Cowgirl efforts had Aisling Casey running a 22:53.12 for 31st and Carly Thurman 24:27.82 for 60th.

In the men's division, Kevin Laughlin placed 18th at 28:10.70, Edwin Koenck was 28th at 28:59.29l, Jordan Neil 33rd at 29:14.40 and Brock Moreau 51st 31:25.53.

McNeese's men did not compete as a team in the meet since the Cowboys sent their No. 1 squad to Minneapolis for a meet against nationally ranked squads.
