Lady Tigers Remain No. 2, Tigers Up to No. 6 in Trackwire Rankings

BATON ROUGE -- Following solid season opening performances as Saturday\'s Purple Tiger Invitational, the LSU Lady Tiger track and field held onto it\'s No. 2 national ranking, while the Tigers moved up one spot to No. 6 according to the Trackwire 25 released Tuesday. The Lady Tigers closed in on No. 1 Tennessee with 48 points to the Vols\' 50. South Carolina (45) and Florida (44) are third and fourth, respectively, this week while UCLA, Texas and Stanford all land in a three-way tie for fifth (31). In the men\'s standing, Arkansas continues to hold a commanding lead over the others, retaining the No. 1 spot with 71 points. Michigan (36), Indiana (33), Florida (32) and Texas (29) round out the top five, while the Tigers follow (26). LSU also has both its men\'s and women\'s 4x400-meter relay teams as well as two individuals ranked No. 1 in the country this week. Freshman Ashley Owens leads the pack in the 60-meter dash for the second straight week. She is also ranked No. 2 in the 100-meter dash. Junior Kelly Willie tops the standings the men\'s 400 meters for the second consecutive week. Others listed among the top 12 include senior Hazelann Regis and freshman Deonna Lawrence at No. 2 and No. 12, respectively, in the 400 meters, senior Neisha Bernard-Thomas at No. 2 in the 800 meters, sophomore Tina Harris at No. 5 in the long jump, senior Willie Bradley at No. 3 in the triple jump and freshman Xavier Carter at No. 9 in the 400 meters.
