SJA'S EMOIREE ROGERS SOARS TO A WIN SATURDAY AT THE LSU HIGH SCHOOL CLASSIC
Nobody told St. Joseph Academy's Emoiree Rogers that weren't supposed to win their individual events at Saturday's LSU High School Classic. There are just too many great athletes from Louisiana and the neighboring states for the youngsters to have that level of success.
Roger, who also had the fastest time of any freshman in the 60m with a 8.14, debunked that myth by opening her high school career with a win in the long jump (17-10.25).
"It feels amazing that I can compete against other athletes that are older than me and on the same level as me," Rogers said.
As far as her execution on the runway and flight mechanics, the freshman took it all in stride.
"It was just really taking all I learned in practice and putting it together and going back to the fundamentals," Rogers said.
Rogers also turned in the fastest freshman time in the 60m running a 8.14.
Not only is Rogers taking care of her business as a part of the track team, but she is also taking care of business in the classroom as well. She has a 4.0 GPA after her first semester at SJA.
Rogers' performance was just one turned in from a handful of fantastic freshmen females. Below, you can find a few more.
Lila Silk (Denham Springs)-- In the first track meet of her high school career, Silk finished No. 8 in the 1600m with a time of 5:35. Look for her to continue to improve as she works her way to the time she threw down at RunningLane Championships-5:19.
Celia Adams (St. Thomas Aquinas)--Another freshman distance runner who impressed on Saturday. Adams finished at No. 8 in the 3200m with a time of 12:24.
Metairie Park Country Day's Coco Alvarado had a good day in the 400m. Alvarado had a time of 1:00 to finish No. 8th.
Yet another Top 8 performance was turned in by Alvarado's teammate--Lily Galliano in the 800m. Galliano ran a 2:33 to finish eighth.
