MileSplit LA 2025 Indoor Girls Athlete Of The Year - Barbe's Kennedi Burks
"The goal is always to PR"
There is your answer when you ask Barbe's Kennedi Burks what her plan was coming into a race. In 2025, she did just that...over, and over again. It seemed that with every meet she would break her own meet record that she set in 2024.
It started with her opener at the McNeese Indoor No.1 in her hometown of Lake Charles. She ran a 55.70. Burks continued to get better with every meet and finished with an incredible 54.36 at the LHSAA State Indoor Championships becoming the only La. HS sprinter in history to break 55 seconds.
Many of the top athletes in the state find it difficult to surpass their marks from their junior--especially early on during their senior campaign. Not Burks, who signed with LSU during the early signing period. She seems as hungry as ever and ready to enjoy "every single moment" of what remains in an incredible high school career.

HONORABLE MENTION: East Ascension's Kiristen Mcgirt, West Feliciana's Tristen Harris, Parkview Baptist's Lucy Cramer, Destrehan's Marley Richard, Madison Prep's Dynasty Wilfred.
MileSplit LA 2025 Indoor Boys Athlete Of The Year - Parkview Baptist's Aiden Monistere
Like Burks, Monistere proved early on during the 2025 La. HS indoor season that he was not playing around. For Monistere, it started with the LSU HS Classic when he ran a time of 4:11.21 at the LSU HS Classic. That performance erased LSU's Rhen Langley's time of 4:13 set in 2024.
But, as we would soon find out, Monistere was just getting started.
Monistere would travel to the VA Showcase in Virginia Beach, Virginia and stun some of the top returning distance runners in the nation--including Las Cruses, New Mexico's Corbin Coombs. Monistere ran a 4:07.87 to become Louisiana's fastest miler of all-time surpassing greats like Ryan Travis and Bobby Beck, both of whom ran a 4:08.
The following day, Monistere ran the two mile in the 9:00. At the time, it was No.1 in the nation. At present, it ranks No. 6 in the nation.
His 3200m time is ranked No.2 in the nation and his 1600m time is ranked No.3 in the nation.

HONORABLE MENTION: Scotlandville's Ferzell Shepard, Slidell's Gionni Wiltz, Holy Cross' Josh Brown.

MileSplit LA 2025 Indoor Boys' Newcomer Of The Year-- Alexandria's Carter Rivet
We knew that this young man was a beast when it comes to the discus. He is the "little" brother of Louisiana Tech's Hunter Rivet, who won the LHSAA Class 5A State Championship on the final throw of his high school career.
What we didn't know is the immediate impact he would have on the shot put during his first taste of high school action. We learned quickly as Rivet opened at the McNeese Indoor No. with an impressive throw of 51-8.
With every meet, Rivet continued to improve. He finished as the LHSAA D1 State Indoor runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 57-7.75. That mark is over 2.5 feet further than other freshman in the nation.
MileSplit LA 2025 Indoor Girls' Coach Of The Year- St. Joseph's Baton Rouge Vernon Langley
St. Joseph's Academy Vernon Langley came into this season without some of the talented athletes who were expected to score points at the LHSAA State Indoor Championships for SJA. Despite those athletes opting out of the 2025 indoor season, Langley was able to lead the Stickers to the 2025 LHSAA State Championships.
Of course, Langley had some help with three seniors Michelle Daigle, Alexandria Stewart, and Jaelyn Jones who all played a role in helping St. Joseph's overcome some adversity during the LHSAA D1 State Championships.

MileSplit LA 2025 Indoor Boys' Coach Of The Year--Lake Charles College Prep's Jackie Rhine
"We'll be back."
That's what Coach Jackie Rhine said after the 2024 LHSAA State Indoor Championships when the Trailblazers of LCCP were disqualified in the final event of the meet when an outgoing relay runner had his foot on the line instead of behind it.
Rhine made good on his promise. LCCP was back this year and in the same position--leading the LHSAA D2 State Indoor Championships by a slim 2-point margin going into the final event of the meet.
This time, the Trailblazers 4x400 were able to seal the deal and take the championship hardware home back to Lake Charles. Rhine buckled the trophy in on his passenger seat--just to be safe.
Look for the Trailblazers to carry that momentum into the 2025 outdoor season.
HONORABLE MENTION: Catholic High HC Sean Brady
MileSplit LA 2025 Indoor Assistant Coach Of The Year-- Catholic High assistant coach Zach Capello.
Capello, who had previously been with the Dunham program, helped to get the Bears in a position to the win the LHSAA D1 State Indoor Championships, where the fight in Capello's young, gritty distance group was on display.
For example, sophomore William Decuir finished as the runner-up in the 800m, junior Peter Watson fought to the very end to secure his spot on the podium with a 4:28.29 in the 1600m, and freshman Augustin Juneau did not run like a freshman in the 3200m where he finished third with a 9:32.75.
HONORABLE MENTION: Parkview Baptist assistant coach Kate Cramer.
