Race Hughes, Catherine McElroy Win Performer Of The Week!

JESUIT'S RACE HUGHES (2900) COMPETES IN THE SJA INVITATIONAL

Congratulations to Jesuit's Race Hughes and Caddo Magnet's Catherine McElroy! They won MileSplit LA Performer Of The Week honors and will now advance to compete for MileSplit LA XC Runner Of The Year at the end of the season.

Hughes, the No. 1 ranked freshman boy in Louisiana, won the MileSplit LA Boys' Performer Of The Week poll with 35,311 votes. Providence Classical Academy's Baxter Carroll, who is leading the team in their first year of LHSAA cross country action, finished as the runner-up with 20,060 votes.

While Hughes made the poll by an impressive performance at the St. Joseph's Cross Country Invitational with an impressive performance (15:44), he ran even faster at Saturday's Pete Boudreaux Catholic Invitational. He finished No. 19 with a personal record of 15:34.

Hughes' time ranks No. 8 all-time in the MileSplit LA database for freshmen. It's also the No. 2 time turned in by a Jesuit freshman, only trailing Leland Crawford's time of 15:29 in 2021.

In the MileSplit LA Girls' Performer Of The Week poll, McElroy captured a whooping 46,170 votes, and she needed almost all of them as C.E. Byrd freshman Emmy Banker finished as the runner-up with  35,183 votes.

McElroy made the poll by finishing as the No. 7 runner at the C.E. Byrd Fall Invitational with a time of 20:54. Her performance led the Mustangs to runner-up performance in the team division.

Her time was only seven seconds slower than her personal record 20:47 she ran at the Huntington Raider Cross Country Invitational.

Thanks to the MileSplit LA community for engaging with our weekly polls. As a reminder, you are able to nominate runners every week. These nominations are due by 9pm every Sunday night. Look for this week's poll tomorrow.
