MT. CARMEL'S LUCY QUINTANA (14) COMPETES AT THE LSU LAST CHANCE QUALIFIER
Congratulations to Acadiana's Damon Lewis and Mt. Carmel's Lucy Quintana. They are this week's MileSplit LA Performers Of The Week. Both Lewis and Quintana will now advance to the ballot for MileSplit LA Outdoor Athlete Of The Year at the end of the season.
Lewis won a tight battle with Episcopal of Acadiana's Anderson Frank. 52 votes separated the two, but Lewis came out on top with 279 votes.
Quintana had 15,727 votes which was 46% of the votes in the girls' poll. Huntington freshman Kaylie Dupree was the runner-up with close to 30% of the votes.
Lewis, who has won all six of the competitions he has entered this season, made the ballot by jumping 6-11 at the Tabasco Relays. It's the No.1 jump in Louisiana this year and ranks No. 2 in the nation.
Quintana made ballot of turning in an impressive distance double at the Hecker Invitational where she finished as the runner-up in both the 1600m and 3200m. Quintana's time in the 1600m was 5:18.43. In the 3200m, she ran a time of 11:23.04. Both times are personal records for Quintana.
