Parkway's Brennan Robin and Lafayette Christian Academy's Talan Sievers were the top two Louisiana freshmen boys heading into November's LHSAA State Cross Country Championships as they owned the No. 1 and No. 2 times in the state.
Sievers went in with the fastest time (15:05) and Robin (15:24) was No. 2 on the freshmen boys' list heading into the state cross country meet.
While neither came away from Natchitoches with a personal record, they both cemented their status as MileSplit LA Future Stars with their performance that mid-November Monday in Natchitoches.
Robin finished No. 12 in LHSAA Division I Boys' race with a time of 15:37.60.
In a finish which came down to the last 300m on the track at the Walter Ledet Track & Field Complex where his father competed for NSU, Sievers willed his way to his first state title by defeating Calvary's Jackson Burney in dramatic fashion in Division IV. His winning time was 15:40.
Now, both will be competing in the first Louisiana indoor meet of the year as they are entered in Saturday's LSU High School Classic.
It's new territory for Robin, who will be competing in the first indoor meet of his career.
"I'm really looking forward to racing this weekend because it will be my first indoor meet and I'll be going up against some fast competition in a different environment. I'm feeling good about this race because I have a lot of confidence in my training thanks to Coach Falting. My mindset for the weekend is to just give the race my best, and I'm sure the result will be great."
For Sievers, it's nothing new as he competed in LHSAA indoor meets last year as an eighth grader.
Both Robin and Sievers are scheduled to compete in the 1600m. Sievers will also run the 3200m.
"After the state cross country meet, I had to take a break for three weeks due to an injury," Sievers said. "I've been back running for about a week now. My expectations are definitely higher going into this indoor season (after winning a XC state championship) and I can't wait to begin."
