THE YEAR IN PICTURES! No. 3 -- Follow The Leader!

BYRD'S JENNA KEY SPRINTS TO THE FINISH LINE AT THE CATHOLIC HIGH INVITATIONAL!

How many times are you able to capture the top four athletes, spectators, and even the coach in one frame? Not many, but MileSplit LA's Tayler Tabb was able to do just that at the Catholic High XC Invitational during the 2023 cross country season.

Byrd's Jenna Key (17:26) won the race. Newman's Ava Hartman was second followed by St. Joseph's Grace Rennhoff and Michelle Daigle. This represents four of the top seven runners in Louisiana according to the final rankings.

Key's time of 17:26 at the Catholic Invitational ranks No. 4 on the Louisiana girls' three-mile ranking list. Hartman (5th; 17:29) and Rennhoff (7th; 17:31) had their fastest times of the season as well.

Daigle, who is the only runner in this picture who will return for the 2024 cross country season, had her fastest time in 2023 came at the LHSAA Division 1 Region 2 Meet where she finished as the runner-up with a 17:22. Daigle's teammate, Elise Brown (17:18), won the meet.

In the far right of the frame, you can see Key's coach, Byrd's Juan Plaza-stopwatch in one had and cell phone in the other.

The race was Key's best of the year. She would go on to finish at the LHSAA D1 State Cross Country Championships.
