MILERS AT THE BOSSIER PARISH CHAMPIONSHIPS GET READY FOR THE GUN!
This time of year, people know about crowded lines as they battled to get their last-minute Christmas shopping done. The milers at the Bossier Parish Championships know a thing or two about crowded lines from their experience at last March.
MileSplit LA photographer Tanya Orms was there to capture this picture at the start.
Parkway's Alex Gomez, who is pictured in the pole position, won the 1600m with a time of 4:42. Gomez's teammate, Ben Ruliffson was second with a time of 4:47.
It wasn't the only event at the Bossier Parish Championships that Kent Falting's Parkway Panthers went No.1--No.2. The boys from South Bossier flexed their distance muscles--and depth--by going No.1-No.2 in the 3200m as well.
Gabriel Falting came away with the gold medal in the 3200m with a 10:17. Jesus Cordova was second (10:23).
Benton's Isabelle Russell (wearing glasses) is on the line as well as meet officials opted to combine the boys and the girls. Russell won the first of her two championships on this by taking the race in a time of 5:21. She would come back at the end of the meet to take the 3200m title with a time of 12:20.
Russell is now at the University of Louisiana--Lafayette. She finished 36th in the Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Championships with a 6K time of 19:08.30. She was the No. 3 runner for the Ragin Cajuns. Fellow freshman Ella Segura, a former St. Louis Catholic standout, led UL with a time of 18:54 which placed No. 30.
