VOTE: MileSplit LA Girls' Athlete of the Year!

MileSplit (Before Pick)

This is the poll we've all been waiting for. The MileSplit LA Girls' Athlete of the Year poll. Congratulations to all of the deserving young ladies who have made the ballot. The poll will close at 9pm on Saturday. As always, thank you in advance for voting.

KALI MAGANA (LOUISE S. MCGEHEE) - Magana was MileSplit LA Girls' Athlete of the Month for January. It was great to see her on the track after sitting a year for tranferring. She made the most of her return. She used the momentum from a strong indoor campaign to lead Louise McGehee to the school's first LHSAA State Outdoor championship. She left Bernie Moore with four gold medals after winning the 100m (12.15), 200m (24.59), and 800m (2:20.53), but her favorite gold medal was the one she earned with her teammates in the 4x200m (1:42.93).

REESE JOHNSON (MANDEVILLE)- Amazingly, Johnson got faster every time she stepped on the track during the indoor season. In February, Johnson finished as the runner-up in the LHSAA Divison I 60m (7.62). For her efforts, Johnson was named MileSplit LA Girls' Athlete of the Month for February. When the outdoor season rolled around, it was more of the same from Johnson, who finished thrid in both the LHSAA Class 5A 100m (12.06) and 200m (24.87).

LENNON SIRMON (NEVILLE) - The only freshman on our end of the year ballot, Sirmon was the MileSplit LA Girls Athlete of the Month for March. She is deserving of this spot after a successful ninth grade year on Monroe's historic Forsythe Ave. Sirmon scored points in all three of her individual events (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, high jump) in a competitivie Region 1-4A Meet. It was the high jump where Sirmon's runner-up finish with a 4-10 punched her ticket to the LHSAA State Outdoor Meet. Sirmon finished sixth in the high jump at the state meet (4-9.75).

MARLEY RICHARD (DESTREHAN) - The sophomore was the MileSplit LA Girls' Athlete of the Month for April. It's hard to do better than perfect. Richard was perfect in all of her individual events during the regular season winning every 100m, 200m, and long jump competition she entered. In fact, Richard was perfect until the LHSAA Class 5A outdoor meet. Her sophomore season is one that she will not soon forget after earning her first--and second--state championship. Her first came in the triple jump during the indoor season when she won the LHSAA Division 1 triple jump with a effort of 39-9.25. During the outdoor season, Richard won the LHSAA Class 5A state outdoor championship in the long jump with an 18-1.75. Richard aslo finished fifth in the 100m (12.24) and 200m (25.51). She also finished thrid in the triple jump (36-7.75).

ANGELLE DUPUIS (TEURLINGS CATHOLIC)- Dupuis was the MileSplit LA Girls' Athlete of the Month for May. Dupuis was the District 4-4A champion in both the 800m (2:24.11) and 1600m (5:40.58). Dupuis had an amazing personal record of 5:13.93 in the 1600m at the LHSAA Class 4A State Outdoor Meet finishing second to Vandebilt Catholic's Brynn Kelso. Dupuis also finish fourth the in the 800m (2:21.03).
