The future is bright for La. High School track and field and the evidence is in the fact that all but one of the finalists on this week's ballot for MileSplit LA Girls' Performer of the Week won a state championship at the LHSAA State Outdoor Meet. There are two other freshmen who won state championships and they will appear on next week's ballot. Congratulations to all who made the ballot. The winner will move on to compete for MileSplit LA Girls' Athlete of the Month. This poll will close on Saturday at 9pm. Thank you for voting.

And the finalists are...

Kaitlyn Sawyer (Hathaway) - Finished second in both the Class B 800m (2:28.08) and 1600m (5:28.85)

 Dakota Miller (Simpson)- Won the Class C 1600m (5:51.01) and finished second in the long jump (15-4.75)

Reese Jean (Evans)- Successfully defended her  Class C 3200m title with a time of 13:20.30. She also finished as the runner-up in the 1600m (6:07.12)

Aaliyah Gaddis (Family Christian) - Last year, Gaddis scored fourth place or higher in three events, including a runner-up finish in the triple jump (31-8.25). This year, she added a new event--the high jump and struck gold with a jump which cleared the bar at 5-1.75. 

Sophia Swinney (Anacoco) - After making the podium at a state meet twice, Swinney picked up her first state championship in the Class B girls 800m with a season best of 2:24.68

Bradie Eppinette (St. Fredrick) - Eppinette successfully defended her Class 1A title in the 1600m with a time of 5:26.03. She also finished third in the 800m (2:27.60).

Hayley Calcote (Rosepine)- Was the only sprinter in Class 2A to break 1:00 in the 400m. She won the event with a time of 59.65. 

Leah Varisco (Academy of Sacred Heart NO)- After finishing third in the Class 3A 1600m (5:37.54) earlier in the meet, Varisco picked up her first state title in the 3200m (11:53.36)
