Byrd's Jenna Key makes remarkable comeback to compete in 2022 LHSAA State Outdoor Meet. Last January, Byrd's Jenna Key was in the best shape of her life. She had come off an 2021 cross country in which she battled Ruston's Lily Garrett for the Class 5A individual state championship. As she was preparing for the state indoor meet, she suffered a freak accident by stepping on lacrosse ball while running during her workout. It literally took Key all season to get back to where she could compete, but she was able to run in the District 1-5A meet--running in only the 3200m. She won with a time of 12:06.24. At the Region I-5A Meet, she finished second to Garrett with a time of 11:49.22. Her outdoor season ended with a trip to Baton Rouge and the LHSAA State Outodoor Championships. An 11:33.37 earned her a bronze medal and a trip to the podium at Bernie Moore Stadium. Read more about her road to recovery at the link below.
